Medicaid Home Help Care

Home Help Services is a program administered by the Department of Human Services (DHS).

It is designed to give support to individuals who are unable to care for themselves adequately at home. This program provides funding for individuals to hire family members or friends to assist with daily activities of living. This allows the client to live in their own homes rather than live in nursing homes, adult foster care homes, or homes for the aged. If a client is unable to perform some of the basic activities of daily living, DHS may approve your caregiver to help you with:

• Eating or feeding

• Using the toilet

• Bathing

• Grooming

• Dressing

• Transferring from one position to another

• Moving around the home

• Taking medicine

• Preparing meals and cleaning up

• Shopping for essential items

• Doing laundry

• Light housework
